Meier Science 8
“Being a scientist is like doing a jigsaw puzzle in a snowstorm at night, with some pieces missing, and with no idea what the finished picture looks like.” -Anonymous
About Ms. MeierI have been teaching at JML since 2015 and I’m extremely excited to start off a another brand-new year! I love teaching Physical Science and I can’t wait to get this year’s adventure underway.
I can proudly say that I was born and raised right here in Loudoun County. I rose through the public-school system from the elementary level all the way to graduating from Loudoun Valley High School in 2009. I went on to earn a B.S. and M.A.T from James Madison University a.k.a. the BEST university anywhere. J-M-U Duuuukes…! |
The most important thing to know about me it is that I am a proudly, self-proclaimed Whovian, geek, & con-goer/cosplayer. (Even if pretty much all cons are just a bit on hold right now cause of COVID-19. T.T)
I love nothing more than to travel around to various conventions around the country such as San Diego Comic Con, AX, PAX, Katsucon and many more with my friends & family in my free-time! If I am not in school (or traveling to various cons), I am very likely at home either playing video games, working on cosplay or at my gym practicing on the Aerial Silks. If I’m not doing any of the above, you can bet that I am the luckiest dog momma ever and I’m busy spoiling Star-Lord, the best tri-color corgi pup in the entire world…! |
Education
I was lucky enough to complete the 5-year education program offered at JMU, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies with a minor in Middle School Education. After my undergraduate work, I continued on to complete graduate school and earn my Masters in Arts of Teaching (M.A.T) in Middle School Education. Even though I may have graduated, I love continuing to follow my passions in science and never stop learning. There are always new things to learn and explore in any field of science, which is one of the reasons that I find it so fascinating.

Teaching Philosophy

I love teaching because I care deeply about building an environment of
mutual respect and forming meaningful connections with each and
every one of my students.
I have high expectations for my students as well as parents and
guardians. I believe in student responsibility and in teaching my
students to be advocates for themselves. Science and life are both
about experimenting and making mistakes. We all learn from
experimenting and making mistakes, which is why I believe it is a crucial
part of any student's education. My request to all of you is to let your students make mistakes and learn from them. I will be looking over them in my classroom all year long. I will not let them burn the building down, but I will allow them to make mistakes. Making mistakes give us the opportunity to grow as learners and as people, which we are not able to do otherwise.
